Feb 5th: Another warm day in PLPP Wednesday which created conditions too wet for grooming, especially in sun exposed areas. If temperatures drop below zero tonight, expect the trails to be quite icy in the morning, softening as the daytime temperatures rise. Strong winds, warm temperatures and some mixed precipitation over the weekend in PLPP will leave some of the trails icy with scattered tree debris. There has been just trace amounts of snow at lower elevations over the last month, though more has fallen at higher elevations.

January has had very little snow, as well a melt in the middle of the month and trails are generally quite firm with some ice content at the surface; less icy conditions will generally exist on more recent grooming and at higher elevations where there was less of a melt and a little more recent snow. High winds throughout the month have added lots of tree debris and "snow bombs" to the trails, with snow bombs expected at higher elevations where trees are still partially snow laden; many downed trees have been removed during grooming this month but there is the possibility of more down on the trails. With the abundant December snow, there is a decent base for this time of year in PLPP, especially at higher elevations, but some hazards may exist, including a few uneven surfaces, and possible slush or ice (the ground and marshy areas are warmer than normal for this time of year). With the recent warm temperatures a few small patches of ice and some dirt are starting to come up in the marshes on Packers Trail.
